What is a responsive website (and how do you make one)?

If you have even delved into creating a website or have it made, then you know: you need to make a responsive website. After all, you want your website to be visible and work perfectly on all kinds of devices. On the large, wide screens of desktops and on your laptop, but also on tablets and smartphones. But what exactly is such a responsive website? And more importantly, how can you make one?

What is a responsive website?

A responsive website is a website whose layout automatically adapts to the resolution of the visitor's screen. The design scales with the dimensions of the screen, so that the website remains readable and usable on a lot of different devices. Other terms often associated with this are mobile-friendly and mobile-first (designing websites primarily for mobile devices rather than computers).

What does that look like?

In practice, the flexibility of your responsive website is expressed in various ways. For example, instead of truncating text, titles and images, they are displayed in full on a mobile-friendly website. Blocks that are shown next to each other on a wide screen on the mobile version of your website are also shown below each other. This way no important information is lost.

Why is a responsive website important?

If you take your online business seriously, having a responsive website is very important. After all, it ensures that all your visitors can use your website perfectly. Regardless of which device they use to visit your website. That way you don't lose potential customers. Potential customers who would otherwise click away because the website on their screen does not work properly. That would be a waste of all your marketing efforts to get them on your website at all.

But there are even more benefits

Having a responsive website offers you even more advantages in addition to that optimal user experience. It is easier to build in one mobile website than to develop a mobile variant. That includes the cost of maintaining and maintaining your site.

A mobile-friendly website also provides you with a lot of marketing benefits. Search giant Google loves it too. They also want to offer visitors the best user experience, so responsive websites in many cases have a dash and can count on a slightly better position in the search engine. Also because they have faster loading times

Small disclaimer: there are of course other factors such as links and website content that also determine your ranking, but hey ... everything is a bonus, right?

Create a responsive website

Converting your current website or developing a mobile website requires a lot of knowledge and skills in web design and coding. Not to mention CSS media queries, breakpoints and viewports. Many entrepreneurs are not aware of this. Understandable, because that is often not your business. Fortunately, it can be easier: with themes!

All our website themes are already pre-programmed and responsive. With those flexible designs you can be sure that your website will be displayed properly on all devices. That saves you a lot of work, costs and stress. You simply choose a template that you like or suits your company and you can immediately start building your own responsive website. Without writing difficult code.
